What's Really Impressive About College? A Kid's Take College has been pretty wild so far! It's nothing like I expected. I thought it would just be a bigger version of high school, but boy was I wrong. College is a whole new level – the classes, the people, the whole experience. There's so much stuff that has really stuck out and made an impression on me.

Let me start with the classes. In high school, I'll admit I didn't always take my classes super seriously. I did okay, but I kind of coasted by without pushing myself too hard. College classes are no joke though! The professors really don't mess around. They pack so much intense material into each class session. And the readings and assignments? Forget about it – I've never had to work so hard just to keep up.

At first, I was kind of overwhelmed and stressed by how challenging the coursework is. But after getting through that initial shock, I've grown to really appreciate how much I'm learning and being pushed to expand my knowledge and skills. The subjects get so in-depth and complex compared to anything I did in high school. It's kind of awesome getting exposed to all

these new ideas and ways of looking at things I never considered before.

What's also cool is how the professors teach the material. In high school, a lot of classes felt like the teacher was just lecturing at us to memorize stuff for tests. But in college, the professors really try to get us to actively engage with the topics through tons of discussions, debates, group projects and the like. It's not just about memorizing, but actually understanding and applying the concepts. I have to admit, at times it can be Kind of

intimidating speaking up and putting myself out there, especially in those huge lecture hall classes. But it's helping me become a stronger critical thinker and communicator.

Another thing about college that has made a big impression is the diversity. My high school was relatively small and

dominated by the same general type of kids I grew up with in my town. Not much diversity at all. College is like a total melting pot of people from all over the place with really different backgrounds and perspectives.

At first, being around so many unfamiliar cultures and personalities was kind of a shock. But now I find it so fascinating learning about all the unique experiences my peers have had growing up compared to my own experiences. Having

conversations and working on group projects with people who see things so differently has been truly eye-opening for me. It's helping me understand how diverse the world is outside of my small hometown bubble.

It's also been really cool meeting so many different types of personalities. From the class clowns to the hardcore studiers, from frat bros to activist types, you name it – every type of person exists here. I'll admit some of the personalities and crowds can seem a bit extreme or bizarre to me at first. But the more I'm exposed to them, the more I realize that there's no one \"normal\" way to be. Everyone's just expressing their identity and interests in their own unique style.

I've made such a diverse friend group that I never could have even pictured making back in high school. Branching out and connecting with all these different personalities has expanded my horizons in such a positive way. I'm becoming a lot more open-minded and comfortable stepping outside my usual comfort zones.

Speaking of stepping out of comfort zones, living on my own away from my family for the first time has been a major life experience. Of course, there was an initial homesickness period as I got used to the independence. But after settling in, I've

grown to really love and appreciate my newfound freedom and privacy. No more parental rules or curfews! I can truly be my own person and come and go as I please.

At the same time, being fully responsible for all my needs like cleaning, cooking and doing laundry was a harsh wake up call at first. I definitely took my mom's housekeeping for granted all those years! But it's been rewarding becoming self-sufficient and learning crucial life skills. Yeah, maybe my dorm isn't always sparkling clean and I survive mostly on frozen meals. But hey, I'm still learning and getting better each day.

Another novel experience that has made college so memorable is having a true social life for the first time. In high school, I had my friend group and all, but it always felt like we were existing in this little kid bubble, sheltered from the real world. Everything revolved around school, being supervised by parents and teachers, going to lame high school events, etc. But in college, between being on my own, meeting so many new diverse people, and having a whole campus with events and opportunities, there's this whole world of socializing that has opened up to me. I've been to my first real parties, bars, concerts,
